This small intimate agricultural museum contains objects dating back to the 1920’s. It is free, and the elderly owner Knud Erik is often available to give a personal tour.

ORØ ROCK

One of Orø’s landmarks, this twenty-ton gneiss rock travelled all the way from Bornholm during the Ice Age. The stone is found today on the ridge along Næsbyvej where you find a lovely view over the beautiful fjord.

Visit this ancestral farmhouse, now a museum. The house and gardens provide the setting for a number of cultural events.

OURØ MEMORIES

This cozy little museum houses exhibits and an extensive collection of written material on Orø’s history. Also exhibited is a copy of “Orøkorset”, an 11th century gold cross found on the island considered to be one of the most treasured Danish gold pieces from the past.

TASTE ORØ - VISIT A BEEKEEPER

Look for the sign "Åben Bihave" at the garden gate on the Højvejen 4. Here beekeeper Hans Jakob Arli Sørensen  can give you an enlightening experience with the possibility of tasting the delicate natural product that is produced here.

FJORDLAND STUDIO

Visit the workshop of the artist Martin Bruggisser. Here Martin creates his works in granite, stoneware, paper, wood, linoleum, and makes masks and wind harps. Prior agreement is required to visit the gallery.

GALLERY ARTDOOR

Visit artist Steen B. Langvad’s gallery, where he exhibits his oil paintings, illustrations and sculptures. Take a look at the outdoor gallery and in the adjacent building, which houses an enticing range of island specialties.

CULTURE RESERVOIR

In honour of the Queen’s visit to the island in 2013, the old water tower on Margrethe Bakken was restored, and thereafter decorated by local artist Steen B.    Langvad. The walls illustrate the history of Orø in a beautiful series of paintings.

ORØ CHURCH

Dating from the 1100’s, Orø church is the island’s oldest building. Its fine frescos had since the Reformation been hidden behind layers of whitewash. However in 2001 they, as well as the ribbed vaults, were restored to their original state.
